A visit to the medieval castle Mauterndorf in Lungau is a highlight both in summer and in winter. This trip includes a time trip back to medieval times and is loved by all children and youngsters.

Already in the roman times there was a trade route over Hohen Tauern and it past, what we know as today, the area of Mauterndorf in Lungau. To protect the market town the Mauterndorf castle was built in the 13th century. The medieval castle served as a customs and toll booth. Later on, it was used a summer residence for the Salzburger prince archbishop. Today it serves as a backdrop for the yearly medieval festival in Mauterndorf.
