Parish church Altenmarkt

The church as it appears today was built around 1390 and consecrated in the year 1418 to the Holy Mother. The purity of the shapes and the interesting style of the connection of the individual parts result in an architectural master piece. The church is one of the rare Basilica examples in the Salzburg area. Inside the church one also finds baroque and modern elements.

Local Heritage Museum Altenmarkt
Today's museum building "Hoamathaus" was established around 1408 and served particularly as accommodation for the mountain miners, those in particularly from Flachau, whom mined ore. This house in the local centre of Altenmarkt was then used as an old peoples home where it became known as the “brother house”. The building remained as an old peoples home until the year 1970 when a new home for the elderly was established.
A farmer room and a kitchen, nursery, weapon room, praying area, school room, bathing room, traditional chamber and a “Perchten” room offer an interesting overview of lives and culture of our ancestors to the visitor.
In 1981 the museum was extensively extended in order to show also large agricultural devices and tools in the “Dechantshof”. One of the real jewels in our local history museum is over 250 years, the old "Grundner crib". This unique crib construction fascinates young as well as old people.
